Back to Work :(

Aaah back to work again! :( I’ve been off work since last Friday so needless to say it was kinda hard to come back this morning. The good news is I only have to work three days this week and two next week… then I’ll be off for youth camp! YAY :) Hard to believe we leave a week from today! I have SOOO much to do… have been procrastinating preparing my lesson for camp…

More from my reading

Here’s some more of my favorite quotes from “In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day”

  • “Lion chasers are more afraid of lifelong regrets than temporary uncertainty. They don’t want to get to the end of their lives and have a million what-if regrets. So they chase lions. In the short-term, it increases uncertainty. But in the long run, it reduces regrets.”
  • “Lion chasers challenge the status quo. They climb cliffs, move to foreign countries, and build boats in the desert. Lion chasers are often considered crazy, but they are able to do these things because they aren’t afraid of uncertainty. They don’t need to know what is coming next because they know that God knows. They don’t need explanations for every disappointment because they know God has a plan. Lion chasers refuse to settle down because they want to experience every divine twist and turn that God has in store for them.”
  • “Maybe a relationship with God doesn’t simplify our lives. Maybe it complicates our lives in ways that they should be complicated.”
  • “I am discovering that the greatest moments in life are unscripted. They are unrehearsed and unplanned and unpredictable, and that is precisely what makes them unforgettable.”
  • “Some of your experiences won’t make sense this side of eternity, but lion chasers know that God is connecting the dots in ways they can’t comprehend. Lion chasers are humble enough to let God call the shots and brave enough to follow where he leads.”

Random Ramblings

We leave for youth camp in less than 3 weeks now! I can’t tell you how excited I am. I think we have such a fun group of kids going this year and I just can’t wait! Along those lines… for those of you who don’t know… youth camp is a little different from our normal activities in a lot of different ways but the one major way is us leaders (not youth pastors) are in charge, kind of. Youth camp is designed in such a way that instead of the youth pastors having to be the ones who correct all of the bad behavior and deal with all of the problems those responsibilities fall to us other leaders… which I think is awesome (for them :) )! Then Daniel and Ryan get a chance just to hang out with the kids and relax. This also means that the leaders teach the camp lessons during our group time! Well just so you know… we are blessed to have TWO youth pastors so about 100% of the time they handle all of the teaching throughout the year… AND their incredible at it. So thanks for laying the pressure on guys! haha

Syesha got kicked off of American Idol… I’m currently in a war with my coworker about David Cook’s hair. She can’t stand it (he’s too “ragamuffin looking” as she calls it) CRACKS me up!!

Shane won the bachelor! I called it from week 2!! YAY Wonder if their still together?

The Bachelorette starts next week!!! Double YAY!!

I’ve got to stop watching reality tv… maybe I should work on my camp lesson instead! haha

Mother’s Day

So we did it! We pulled off a surprise visit up to NC to see my parents. My Dad’s birthday was Wednesday and of course Mother’s Day was yesterday so it was perfect timing for a surprise visit! My Mom and Dad’s reaction was priceless!! I can’t believe we actually kept it a surprise. All of my brothers and sisters knew about it and I had to consciously remember not to say anything incriminating that would give it away :)

It’s always so nice to get away from the normal madness for a weekend and just get to relax for a day or two.

YAYAYYAYAYYA!!!!

Our meeting with the Planning and Zoning Board went VERY WELL! We were approved to go ahead and build on the property as well as start using it for our events, meetings, whatever :) Jay was so well spoken and our neighbors on both sides showed up in support of our efforts. It was a great night and I’m sure half of us were up half the night with excitement!!!

AND Big shout out to Anthony who represented our students like a pro!

Say a little prayer for JPC

Tonight is the night! We’re going before the Zoning Board for a conditional use permit and a road variance as the first step in us buildling a church on the land that we have purchased. A little nerve-wracking! Pray for Jay specifically as he will be the speaker on behalf of the church.

It’s a Happy Day

Joe has finally been kicked off of Beauty and the Geek!!!! I can’t tell you how irritated I was getting having to watch him every week. I have no idea how his partner put up with him. That’s all – just wanted to share my excitement! :)

I think I fried my hair!

Yeah… last night I was blow drying my hair and all of the sudden heard a large pop sound and my blow dryer cut off. Instantly I smelled that nasty electrical fire smell and then wondered if I had caught my hair on fire! SCARY!!! I know I must have looked like such a dork flailing around in front of the mirror trying to see if there were any flames coming off of my head! So far though I haven’t found any patches of singed hair. Poor hair dryer – I had only had it for a few months! :(

Reminds me of a funny story – back in the day when Daniel and I lived in an apartment, we had a big fluffy cat. She was MUCH friendlier than our current kitty. Anyways, I had decided to light some candles that were on top of tall candle stands. Nallah (kitty) decided she was skinny enough to walk in between the candle stands and she was wrong. Her big fluffy tail ventured in the flame of one of the candles and she caught her tail on fire! I shot across the living room in order to save her before she even realized she was on fire. All she knew was that I was beating her to death. In the process of “beating” the cat one of the candles fell on the floor spilling wax all over the carpet. The good news Nallah survived but had that lovely singed hair smell for quite a while. I always wondered what she thought happened – she probably thought I had gone temporarily insane or something which I guess is indeed possible! :)

Does anyone want a boxer?

Just kidding… I love Apollo to death but I really think I remember life being much simpler before we had two dogs and a cat! And I’m pretty sure our house smelled a lot better pre-dogs!! I will be so glad when his bladder catches up to his size. He can only hold it a max of about 6 hours now and I know Daniel’s getting tired of cleaning up a mess EVERY day when he gets home and I’m getting tired of burning a thousand candles every night and scrubbing floors all the time because I never feel like their clean enough! AAAGGGHHH
